HBS Alumni Angels of Greater New York

Who are the HBS Alumni Angels of Greater New York?

We are the second largest angel group in NY, with more than $3.5 million invested across 25 companies.

Our angel members are Harvard Business School and other Harvard University alumni who invest in early-stage private companies on an individual basis. Many are active mentors to their portfolio companies. Our 130 members have experience across a wide range of industries and functional areas, and most have multiple investments in early stage companies.

The companies in which we invest are NOT required to have any ties to Harvard University, and cover multiple industries and geographies, although many are in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Eastern Pennsylvania.

We have co-founded the Venture Capital Access Program, which helps women and diverse entrepreneurs raise early-stage capital from our members.

Become a Member

Membership to HBS Alumni Angels is limited to Harvard Business School and Harvard alumni only.

If you are interested in joining as an Angel investor and are an alumni of Harvard Business School (alumni of Harvard undergraduate and graduate schools are also eligible), please visit the HBS Alumni Angels website and select the membership tab. Enter as an HBS or Harvard alumni and follow directions (if you do not have an HBS LEFA, your Harvard alumni status will be verified and an e-mail sent to you before you may join) and pay annual dues to join.

Shortly after joining HBS Alumni Angels, you will receive an e-mail with an attached Accredited Investor form and a New York Chapter Membership Agreement to sign and submit.   Upon receipt of these documents, accredited investors will be sent specifics to initiate an account on GUST (which is limited to accredited investors).  The HBS Alumni Angels of New York chapter specific activities and events will be available to members through the HBSAANY and HBSAA websites.

Submit a Business Plan

We invite companies from all sectors to submit their business plans for funding. Our geographic focus includes, but is not limited to, the Greater New York area (Connecticut, New Jersey, and Philadelphia). Companies do NOT need to have a Harvard affiliation.

Our Investment Process
  1. Application. Submit an application through our Gust website. Referrals and recommendations from our members are helpful.

  2. Screening. Our members will evaluate your application and we select several companies to present in person at our monthly pitch night (schedule below).

  3. Evaluation. If there is sufficient interest following pitch night, the interested angels will form a “deal team” which will conduct further due diligence on your company.

  4. Investment. While angels make individual investment decisions, we work to make the timing and process efficient for our entrepreneurs. As appropriate, we also syndicate our investments with other HBS Angel chapters and angel networks. Angel financing rounds can be up to $1 million or more, including syndicated investors.

  5. Mentorship. As desired by the company, we encourage our investor members to leverage their own experience and professional network as active mentors to assist in our companies’ success.
If you are an HBSAANY member and an existing investor in a company you would like to submit for consideration, please review our Fast Track criteria here. Fast Track applicants may be eligible to move through our screening process at an accelerated pace given that due diligence has already been completed by a member.
